Section 1 Assessment of Pg 245

1.
a) Weathering is the process that breaks down rock and other substances at Earth’s surface.
b) Erosion is the removal of rock particles by wind, water, ice, or gravity.
c) Over a hundred of years weathering and erosion affect’s the mountains on earth because they continuously carry the rocks or soils from the mountains to the bottom of the mountain. As a result the mountains height is decreasing day by day.

2.
a) Chemical weathering is the process that breaks down rock by chemical changes.
b) Mechanical weathering is when rocks are physically broken into smaller pieces and chemical weathering is when the rocks brakes into smaller pieces by chemical changes.
c) Freezing and Thawing: Freezing and thawing is part of mechanical weathering because water seeps into a hole in the rock then when it becomes cold the water freezes and turns into ice so when water turns into ice its

3.
a) The two factors are type of rocks and climate. First type of rocks effect because the minerals that make up the rock determine how fast it weathers. And second the climate matters because the climate refers to the average weather conditions in an area.
b) The rate will not be that high because weathering affects much more if the weather is hot and wet so if the weather is cold and dry the weathering will not affect that much so the rock will resist much longer than in the earth longer.
